Research & Statistics

The numbers behind why lead response speed matters and what businesses are leaving on the table.

These pages document the research and data Clearline AI draws on when quantifying the cost of slow or missed lead response. Each page cites sources and notes where figures are estimates versus measured outcomes.

A note on why this section exists at all: most vendors selling lead automation quote alarming statistics with no source attached. Some of the most widely repeated numbers about missed calls trace back to vendor surveys rather than published research. Where a claim here rests on peer-reviewed or primary-source work, that source is linked. Where it is a modelled estimate, it says so.

The two studies that do most of the work in this area are the Harvard Business Review audit of response times across 2,241 companies, and the MIT Sloan lead response management study. Both measured web-form enquiries rather than phone calls, which is a limitation worth stating plainly rather than glossing over.
