What we actually check
Seven areas, scored like a traffic light. Here is every one of them, why it matters, and how we work it out. No mystery score and no black box.
Every check, in plain English
Six of these are measured from your website. One is based on two questions we ask you, because it cannot be seen from outside, and it is labelled that way on your result.
Speed on a phone
Most people find you on a phone, often on patchy mobile data. If the page takes too long to show them anything, they are gone before they know what you do.
- How long until your main content appears
- Whether the layout jumps while loading
- Total page weight on mobile data
- Oversized or uncompressed images
- Measured by Google, not by us
- Tested as a mobile device, not a desktop
Reading well on a phone
A site that technically works on a phone but needs pinching and zooming will lose people who were ready to call you.
- Whether a mobile viewport is set at all
- Text large enough to read without zooming
- Buttons big enough to hit with a thumb
- Tap targets far enough apart
- Whether the page scrolls sideways
- How the layout holds at phone width
Capturing the enquiry
This is the one that costs the most money and the one most often broken. A number that cannot be tapped, or a form nobody finishes, quietly loses you work every week.
- Whether your phone number is tap to call
- Whether it appears before they have to scroll
- Whether there is an enquiry form at all
- How many fields that form demands
- Whether there is any other way to reach you
- Whether contact details appear site wide or only on one page
Booking and next step
If the only path forward is a phone call during business hours, you are asking people to do the work. Plenty of them will not.
- Whether a visitor can lock in a time
- Whether there is a quote request path
- Whether a booking tool is actually connected
- Whether the next step is stated anywhere
- Whether the main call to action is clear
- Whether anything confirms an enquiry was received
After hours and missed contact
No tool on earth can see this from outside your website, so we ask you two short questions instead of pretending to measure it. This section is clearly marked as coming from your answers, and if you skip the questions we leave it unscored rather than guessing.
- What happens when someone rings after hours
- Whether a missed call gets followed up
- Scored only on what you tell us
- Left blank and unscored if you would rather not say
- Never presented as something we detected
- Covered properly in the full report
Getting found
None of the above matters if nobody lands on the page. These are the basics that decide how you show up in a search result.
- Your page title and whether Google will cut it off
- Whether a search description is set
- Heading structure on the page
- Structured business data for search engines
- Secure connection and canonical setup
- Your Google Business Profile, covered in the full report
Looking trustworthy
Someone comparing three quotes is looking for a reason to rule you out. These are the cheap signals that keep you on the list.
- Secure connection and browser warnings
- Items loading insecurely on a secure page
- ABN or licence number shown
- Reviews or testimonials on the page
- Whether a privacy policy is linked
- Whether your details are consistent across the site
What you get without giving us anything
On screen, straight away
Free, no email needed
- Your score out of 100
- All seven traffic lights
- A plain English verdict
- Every finding on the areas that are working
- Which areas need attention and which are costing you work
- Nothing to sign up for and nothing installed
The written report
Free, emailed to you
- Every finding written out, including the amber and red items
- A ranked fix list, quickest wins first
- Your Google Business Profile and reviews, which we cannot read from your site
- What each gap is likely costing you in missed jobs
- What you can do yourself and what needs a hand
- A copy you can hand straight to whoever built your site
Both are free. The email version exists because the detail runs to a few pages and nobody reads that on a phone between jobs. We will follow up once to see if it was useful, and you can tell us to stop at any time. We never sell or share your details. Privacy Policy
What this check cannot see
Plenty of free audit tools imply they know more about your business than they possibly could. Here is the honest boundary.
- How many enquiries you actually get, or how many you lose
- Anything behind a login, a portal or a customer area
- Your call logs, your inbox, your job management system or your books
- Whether the enquiry form actually delivers to someone who reads it
- How quickly you reply in practice
- Pages other than your homepage, in the free on screen version
Where the report puts a dollar figure on something, it is a model built on typical figures for your trade and it is labelled as a model, not a measurement of your business. If a check cannot be completed on the day, we say so and leave it out of your score rather than guessing either way.
We build it right, then we hand you the keys
If the check turns up more than you want to take on yourself, we can rebuild the site properly. Not a template with your logo dropped on it, a site built around one job: turning the people who find you into booked work.
The part most people are not offered is what happens afterwards. We set it up so you can make your own changes, and we sit down and show you how. Change a price, add a service, swap a photo, put up a job you are proud of. You do it in a few minutes, on your own phone if you want, without waiting three days for someone to get back to you and then billing you for it.
- Get it rightWe rebuild around the gaps this check found, and the ones behind the scenes it cannot see.
- Show you the ropesA walk through of how to update it, in plain English, recorded so you can watch it again.
- Stay on callYou run the day to day. We are there for the bigger changes, if and when you want us.
You end up owning your website instead of renting access to it. If you would rather we kept running it, that is fine too, but it should be your call and not something you are locked into.
Before you run it
Does it change anything on my website?
No. We load your homepage the same way a customer on a phone would and read what is publicly there. Nothing is altered, nothing is installed, and we do not need a login or a password.
How long does it take?
About thirty seconds in most cases. The speed measurement is run by Google and can take a few seconds longer on a slow site.
Do I have to give you my email to see the result?
No. The traffic lights, the score and the findings on your working areas all appear on screen without giving us anything. The email is only if you want the written report with the detail on the amber and red items.
Is the score an official rating?
No. It is our own score, built from the checks listed on this page. It is useful for seeing where you stand and what to fix first, not a certification of anything.
What if a check cannot be completed?
We say so and leave it out of the score. We would rather tell you we could not check something than guess at it and have you act on a number we made up.
Will you try to sell me a new website?
Only if you ask. The check is useful on its own, and plenty of what it finds you can fix yourself or hand to whoever built your site. If you do want us to rebuild it, we will say so plainly and you can take it or leave it.
